Verb + preposition Глагол + предлог

A:  Глагол + at look / have a look / stare / glance (etc.) + at ... :    * Why are you looking at me like that?         Почему ты так смотришь на меня? laugh / smile + at ... :        *  I look stupid with this haircut. Everybody will laugh at me.       Я выгляжу глупо с этой прической. Все будут смеяться надо мной. aim / point (something) + at ..., shoot / fire(a gun) + at ...:  * Don't point that knife at me. It's dangerous.         Не направляй на меня нож. Это опасно. * We saw some people with guns shooting at birds.        Я видела несколько человек с ружьями, стреляющих в птиц.

B: Глагол + to talk / speak + to (somebody):       "with" - также можно использовать, но он используется редко. *  Who was that man you were talking to?         Who was that man you were talking with?     Кто был тот человек, с которым вы разговаривали? * Can I speak to Jane, please?        Can I speak with Jane, please?    Я могу поговорить с Джейн? listen + to...:       * We spent the evening listening to music. (not "listening music")      Мы провели вечер слушая музыку. write (a letter) + to...: * Sorry I haven't written to you for such a long time.       Извините за то, что я вам долго не писал. phone / telephone + (somebody) -(без предлога):  * Did you phone your father yestarday? (not "phone to your father")     Ты вчера звонил отцу? invite (somebody) +  to + (a party / a wedding etc.):    * They only invited a few people to their wedding.        Они пригласили только несколько человек на свою свадьбу.

C: Некоторые глаголы с предлогами  at или to могут изменять значение.   Например: shout + at + ( somebody ):      * She got very angry and started shouting at me.         Она рассердилась и стала кричать на меня. shout + to + ( somebody ): * She shouted to me from the other side of the street.      Она окликнула меня с другой стороны улицы. throw + something + at + ( somebody / something ):     * Somebody threw an egg at the minister.        Кто-то кинул яйцо в министра. throw + something + to + ( somebody ):     * Judy shouted "Catch!" and threw the key to me from the window.      Джуди крикнула: “Лови”, и бросила мне ключ из окна.

D: Explain / describe / apologise explain + something + (to somebody):   *  Can you explain this word to me? (not "explain me this word")      Ты можешь объяснить мне значение этого слова? explain + (to somebody) + that / what / how / why... :  * I explained to them what I wanted them to do. (not "I explained them")    Я объяснил им, что я хочу, чтобы они сделали. “describe”  используется также:    * Let me describe to you what I saw.      Позвольте мне описать то, что я видел. apologise + to + somebody ( for... ):    * He apologise to me. (not "He apologised me")       Он извинился передо мной. но "thank somebody (for something)","ask somebody (for something)":  * He asked me for money. (not "He asked to me")    Он попросил у меня денег.

E: Глагол + about talk / read / tell somebody / have a discussion + about... : * We talked about a lot of things at the meeting.      На собрании мы говорили о многих вещах. но "discuss something" - без предлога:  * We discussed a lot of things at the meeting. (not "discussed about")    На собрании мы обсудили многие вещи. также:      "do something about something":    ( = Сделать что-то, чтобы изменить положение к лучшему.) * If you're worried about the problem, you should do something about it.     Если у вас какая-нибудь проблема,  вам следует ее как-нибудь решать.

F: Care about / care for / take care of care about+ somebody / something  * He's very selfish. He doesn't care about other people.       Он очень эгоистичный.  Он не заботится о других людях. care + what / where / how  (etc.)  (без "about"):   * You can do what you like. I don't care what you do.      Вы можете делать что хотите. Меня не интересует что вы делаете. care for + somebody / something:      i)  (обычно используется в вопросительных и отрицательных       предложениях): * Would you care for a cup of coffee? (= Would you like...?)      Не желаете чашечку кофе? * I don't care for very hot weather.     Меня не беспокоит очень жаркая погода. ii) = присматривать, ухаживать за, заботиться о:   * Albert is 85 and lives alone. He needs somebody to care for him.      Альберту  85 лет, и он живет один.  Ему нужно, чтобы о     нем кто-то заботился. take care of...:                                           *  Have a nice holiday.Take care of yourself!     Хорошего отпуска! Всего хорошего! ( береги себя) *  The patients are taken good care of in this sanatorium.      В этом санатории хороший уход за больными. *  It makes sense to take care of your health.      Никогда не помешает позаботиться о своем здоровье. *  She took care of it personally.     Она лично позаботилась об этом. *  Take care of number one.      Береги себя. *  He's taking care of business.     Он сейчас занят.

G: Глагол + for ask + (somebody) + for...:      *  I wrote to the company asking them for more information about the job.      Я написал в компанию, попросил их дать больше информации о работе. но *  I asked her a question. (без предлога)     Я задал ей вопрос. *  They asked me the way to the station.     Они спросили у меня дорогу до вокзала. apply + (to + a person / a company etc.) + for + (a job etc.):   *  I think this job would suit you. Why don't you apply for it?     Я думаю, эта работа тебе подойдет.  Почему ты не подала заявление? wait for... / wait for something to happen:   *  Don't wait for me. I'll join you later.           Не ждите меня. Я подойду к вам позднее. *  I'm not going out yet. I'll waiting for the rain to stop.      Я пока не выхожу. Я подожду когда прекратится дождь. search + (a person / a place / a bag etc.) + for...:  *  I've searched (the house) for my keys but I still can't find them.      Я обшарил весь дом чтобы найти ключи, но до сих пор не нашел. leave + (a place) +  for + (another place):   *  I haven't seen her since she left (home) for work this morning.     Я не видел ее с тех пор как она ушла на работу этим утром.     (not "left to work")      *  She has left her husband for another man.     Она ушла от своего мужа к другому мужчине.

H: Look for и look after look for...:   *  I've lost my keys. Can you help me to look for them?        Я потерял мои ключи. Вы не могли бы мне помочь их найти? look after...:   *  Albert is 85 and lives alone. He needs somebody to look after him.           Альберту 85 лет, и он живет один. Ему нужно, чтобы о нем     кто-то позаботился.  (not "look for") * You can borrow this book if you promise to look after it.                  Вы можете взять эту книгу если пообещаете ее беречь.

I:  Dream about... и Dream of... dreamt about * I dreamt about you last night.     Я видел тебя во сне прошлой ночью.  dream of being something / doing something:   * I often dream of being rich.       Я часто представляю, что я богат. * "Don't tell anyone what I said." "No, I wouldn't dream of it"    “Никому не рассказывай о том, что я сказал.”    “Нет, я даже и мысли не допускаю.”

J: Hear about /  hear of /  hear from hear about... : *  Did you hear about the fight in the club on Saturday night?                Ты слышал о драке в клубе в субботу вечером? hear of...: * "Who is Tom Madely?" "I've no idea. I've never heard of him."             “Кто такой Том Модели?” ”Ума не приложу. Я никогда о нем не слышал.”    (not "heard from him")                                                  *  I was ever so glad to hear, via Helen, of you.    Я был так рад узнать хоть что-нибудь о тебе от Элен. hear from...:             * "Have you heard from Jane recently?"     "Yes, I got a letter from her a few days ago."     “От Джейн было что-нибудь в последнее время? “     “Да, на днях я получил от нее  письмо.” *  We were so worried when we didn't hear from you for three weeks.      Мы так волновались, от тебя три недели ничего не было.

K: Think about...  и  think of... When you think ABOUT something,you consider it,you concentrate your        mind on it:                                                             think about… *  You look serious. What are you thinking about?                               У тебя серьезный взгляд. О чем ты думаешь? *  "Will you lend me the money?" "I'll think about it."                       “Ты одолжишь мне деньги?” “Я подумаю.” *  I spent the time thinking about you.     Я постоянно думаю о тебе. think of… * He told me his name but I can't think of it now. (not "think about it")      Он назвал мне свое имя, но я не могу сейчас его припомнить. * That's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? (not "think about that")      Это хорошая идея. Почему я не додумался до этого? Мы также используем think of  когда спрашиваем чье-то мнение, или высказываем свое мнение: * "What did you think of the film?" "I didn't think much of it."             “Что ты думаешь о фильме?” “Мне он не очень понравился.” Иногда разница очень незначительная. Часто мы используем как of, так и about. * When I'm alone, I often think of (or about) you.                             Когда я один, я часто думаю о тебе.                                                                           Мы можем сказать "think of или think about doing something" для выражения возможного действия в будущем: * My sister is thinking of (or about) going to Canada.     Моя сестра думает об о поездке в Канаду. *  Where are you thinking of going to dinner.     А куда ты хочешь пойти пообедать?

L: Remind somebody about... и remind somebody of..: remind somebody about... * I'm glad you reminded me about the meeting. I had completly forgotten it.    Я рад, что ты мне напомнила о собрании.  Я совершенно забыл о нем. remind somebody of... * This house reminds me of the one I lived in when I was a child.            Этот дом напоминает мне о доме, в котором я жил в детстве. * Look at this photograph of Richard. Who does he remind you of?              Посмотри на эту фотографию Ричарда. Кого он тебе напоминает?

M:  Complain complain + (to somebody) + about... * We complained to the manager of the restaurant about the food.             Мы выразили недовольство пищей управляющему ресторана. complain + of +  a pain / an illness etc.       * We called the doctor because George was complaining of a pain     in his stomach.                                                                     Мы вызвали врача потому что Джордж жаловался на боль в животе.

N: Warn warn + somebody + of / about *  Everybody has been warned of/about the danger of smoking.                  Все предупреждены об опасности курения. warn + somebody + about + somebody / something *  I knew he was a strange person. I had been warned about him.                (not "warned of him")                                                       Я знал, что он странный человек.  Меня об этом предупредили. *  They warned me about his bad temper.      Меня предупредили о его трудном характере.

O: Глагол + of accuse / suspect + somebody + of ...:                                              *  Sue accused me of being selfish.                                             Сью обвинила меня в эгоистичности. *  Three students were suspected of cheating in the examination.                Три студента были заподозрены в мошенничестве при сдаче экзамена. approve of ...:                                                                * His parents don't approve of what he does, but they can't stop him.          Его родители не одобряют то, что он делает, но они не могут     остановить его. die of :                                                        *  "What did he die of?" "A heart attack."                                      “От чего он умер?”  “От сердечного приступа.” consist of ...:                                                              *  We had an enormous meal. It consisted of seven courses.                      У нас был прекрасный обед. Он состоял из семи блюд.

P: Глагол + for pay + (somebody) + for...:                                                      *  I didn't have enough money to pay (the waiter) for the meal.                 У меня было не хватает денег, чтобы заплатить за обед.     (not  "pay the meal") но pay + a bill / a fine / a tax / a fare / rent /a sum of money etc. (без предлога): *  I didn't have enough money to pay my telephone bill.                         У меня было недостаточно денег чтобы оплатить мой       счет за телефон. thank / forgive + somebody + for...:                                            *  I'll never forgive them for what they did.                                  Я никогда не прощу их за то, что они сделали. apologise + (to somebody) + for...:                                             *  When I realised I was wrong, I apologised (to them) for my mistake.          Когда я осознал, что я был не прав, я извинился за свою ошибку. blame + somebody / something + for...:                                            *  Everybody blamed me for the accident.                                        Все считают меня виновным в аварии. somebody + is to blame for...:                                         *  Everybody said that I was to blame for accident.                             Все говорят, что я виновен в аварии. blame + something + on...:                                                 *  Everybody blamed the accident on me.                                         Все считают меня виновным в аварии.

Q: Глагол + from suffer from + (an illnes etc.):                                               *  The number of people suffering from heart disease has increased.             Количество людей страдающих сердечными заболеваниями      увеличилось. protect + somebody / something + from / agaist...:                             *  Sun oil can protect the skin from the sun.        Sun oil can protect the skin against the sun.     Солнцезащитный крем защищает кожу от солнца.

R: Глагол + on depend on... / rely on...:                                                   *  "What time will you arrive?" "I don't know. It depends on the traffic."       “Когда мы приедем?” “Я не знаю. Это зависит от движения на дороге.” *  You can rely on Jill. She always keeps her promises.                          Ты можешь положиться на Джил. Она всегда выполняет свои обещания. Вы можете использовать depend + when / where / how etc. +  вопросительное слово с предлогом on  и без предлога: *  "Are you going to buy it?" "It depends how much it is."      "Are you going to buy it?" "It depends on how much it is."      “Ты будешь это покупать?” ”Это зависит от цены.” live on + (money / food): *  George's salary is very low. It isn't enough to live on.        У Джорджа маленькая зарплата. Ее недостаточно на жизнь. congratulate + (someone) + on... / compliment + (somebody) + on...:    *  I congratulate her on her success in the exam.       Поздравляю ее с успешной сдачей экзамена.

S: Глагол + in believe in...:      *  Do you believe in God?     Ты веришь в бога? *  I believe in saying what I think.     Я считаю, что мне следует говорить то что я думаю. specialise in...:     *  Helen is a lawyer. She specialises in company law.        Элен юрист. Она специализируется в юридических вопросах компании. succeed in...:     *  I hope you succeed in finding the job you want.         Надеюсь, тебе удастся найти работу, которую ты хочешь. *  He succeeded in resolving this problem.     Ему удалось решить эту задачу.

T: Глагол + into break into...:   *  Our house was broken into a few days ago but nothing was stolen.      Наш дом был взломан несколько дней назад, но ничего не украли. crash / drive / bump / run + into...:       *  He lost control of the car and crashed into a wall.        Он не справился с управлением и врезался в стену. divide / cut / split + something + into + (two or more part):    *  The book is divided into three parts.             Книга разделена на три части. *  Cut the meat into small pieces before frying it.          Порежьте мясо на мелкие части перед тем как его жарить. translate (a book etc.) from one language into another:    *  George Orwell's book have been translated into many languages.      Книга Джорджа Орвелла переведена на многие языки. *  Please translate this passage into good English.     Пожалуйста, сделайте литературный перевод этого абзаца     на английский язык.

U: Глагол + with collide + with...:     *  There was an accident this morning. A bus collided with a car.      (but "crashed into")        Этим утром произошла авария. Автобус столкнулся с автомобилем. fill + something + with...:     * Take this saucepan and fill it with water.       Возьмите эту кастрюлю и заполните ее водой. provided / supply + somebody + with...:   * The school provided all its students with books.       Школа обеспечивает своих учащихся книгами.

V: Глагол + to happen to...:     *  What happened to that gold watch you used to have?      Что случилось с золотыми часами, которые были у тебя? prefer + one thing / person + to + another:    *  I prefer tea to coffee.         Я предпочитаю пить чай, а не кофе.

W: Глагол + on concentrate on...:    *  Don't look out of the window. Concentrate on your work.      Не смотри в окно.  Сосредоточься на своей работе. insist on...:    *  I wanted to go alone but they insisted on coming with me.        Я хотел идти один, но они настояли на  том, чтобы     пойти со мной. spend (money) on...:     * How much money do you spend on food each week?     Сколько ты тратишь денег на продукты за неделю?
